How hypnotherapy can help with infertility issues

Infertility and Feelings of not being good enough in your relationship

There are forms of cancer that target men more than women, and other diseases that affect mostly women. Stress is more likely to cause depression in men while the chances of women getting panic disorders are higher than their male counterparts. It seems the cruelty of illness – both physical and mental – is divided up between the enders. But there is one medical issue that affects both the same way. Normally when something treats both sexes equally it would be seen as a good thing, but there is no consolation in the fact that infertility undermines the emotions of both.

For men, it affects their sense of masculinity, removing the ability to father a child naturally.

For women, it attacks their self-esteem and sense of femininity.

Isn’t it time you started a family?

Outside of the confines of the relationship, there are difficult questions to answer and tricky situations to negotiate.

“About time you started a family isn’t it?” say the lads down the pub. “Will we be hearing the patter of tiny feet?” say the girlfriends over a glass of wine.

Answers have to be fudged. People who desperately want children sometimes find themselves pretending they’ve decided not to have a family. What an awful situation to be in.

Inside the relationship, there is the pain of a partnership under threat. The decision to have children is a joyous one and brings a sense of excitement and anticipation.

One medical test later and all those hopes and dreams disappear to be replaced by empty feelings and a sense of hopelessness.

As a species, we have evolved emotionally way beyond the days of a hunter-gatherer society, but those primaeval instincts to bear and raise a child remain.

That aching feeling

For some even, the opportunity to have treatments such as IVF, a modern medical marvel, does not help with the emotional turmoil. The fact you cannot conceive naturally, and the helplessness associated with it, can stay with someone even if they do manage to have a child with the help of the medical system.

Stress, depression and anxiety are huge problems when it comes to infertility, and this is something hypnotherapy can help with. Being treated this way can help the body be more likely to reproduce because all of those conditions listed are blocks to fertility.

Hypnotherapy can also be a hugely effective way of treating the sort of low self-esteem that comes with infertility issues.

Your therapist will use hypnotherapy to identify the patterns of negative thinking and not only change them but replace them with positive thoughts and beliefs.

And it’s not a one-size-fits-all solution – we are all unique and our negative feelings will manifest themselves in different ways.

After identifying your needs, a hypnotherapist will be able to promote healthy self-esteem and reduce the feelings of inadequacy in the long term.
